A beautiful flight through Chitistone and Skolai Passes and beyond leads you to the starting point of this trip in the Nutzotin Mountains. The route passes through a variety of terrain, beginning with open tundra. After crossing Beaver Creek you pass through a stand of timber where old cabin sites remain.
Crossings of two passes will take you into the high country with views of the surrounding mountains. After a crossing of the North Fork (canyons to explore) you ascend a high ridge. A wonderful hike down the crest of the wild flower covered ridge brings you to a large, secluded lake. Bear and caribou can be spotted on the route. This is a good early season trip when other routes are still snow bound.
Special Features of This Route

Terrain: Portions of the route can be wet in the flat tundra.
We had a truly spectacular visit in Alaska but the highlight of our vacation was certainly our week-long backpacking trip in Wrangell-St. Elias. The flights in and out were awesome; we have great photos along with fond memories of the flight with Wrangell Mountain Air. Thanks again for getting us in and out safely and with good humor and conversation. We hope to fly with you again on our next Alaskan Trip. With memories of flightseeing in the Wrangell..
