McCarthy’s premier air service ~ Flying Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Since 1992

Just a note to say for a wonderful flightseeing trip. And I also appreciated the steps you took throughout the flight for safety – when you kept all other aircraft in sight constantly. The flightseeing trip through the Tana Canyon and up over the Bagley Icefield was our favorite part of our vacation to Alaska. The sights were awesome. We really appreciated that took the time to point out the moose, bears buffalo and wolf that we saw. It was a sight that we will never forget. Thank again for the wonderful flight.

The flight to the airstrip travels through the University Range and some of the most stunning terrain that the park has to offer. The route travels through country that is as varied as it is magnificent. The Pyramid Peak Traverse is a rewarding and challenging trip.

After a traverse on the shoulders of Pyramid Peak, the route crosses a high ridge of Andrus Peak. The views from the top are stunning and varied. From the lofty ridge you will drop down into a valley that has a rich gold mining history. Mining debris and old shafts are still in evidence along the way.
Our route ends at May Creek where you can spend our last night in a cozy public-use cabin (first come, first served) where you can warm your weary feet by the wood stove.

Glaciers: Just over the ridge on Andrus you descend a snow field at the edge of a glacier. Crampons are not required but you may feel more comfortable with them.

Streams: This route requires numerous crossings of Rex Creek which may be challenging at times. Be prepared and knowledgable about safe crossing techniques.

Terrain: Steep traversing on scree and talus slopes. This is a trip for experience wilderness travelers or as a guided adventure.
