McCarthy’s premier air service ~ Flying Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Since 1992

We traveled all over the state of Alaska – from Coldfoot in the Brooks Range to Resurrection Bay – to experience the outdoors and see the people that make up our state. Over 150 people participated this year, in order to see the Alaska that tourists never do. Our programs depends on a number of individuals to make it work. Your assistance throughout the summer helped make these trips happen allowed me to look after the participants without having to worry about travel. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to you and your staff for donating your time and energy to helping these trip happen.

It is a short but very scenic flight to Peavine Bar near the mouth of the Chitistone Canyon. The airstrip is tucked along side the river with vertical limestone cliffs of Chitstone Canyon towering 3000 feet above. Just beside the airstrip are two public use cabins.

Hiking is limited here by the Chitistone River but views are great and there is ample room to wander on short hikes from the cabin. Watch for Dahl Sheep on the cliffs above and Black and Grizzly Bears on the gravel bars along the river. A great place to spend a couple of days.
