Alaska Backcountry Trips

Hanagita Traverse
Duration: 6-8 days
Length: 36-40 miles
Difficulty: Strenuous
Features: RV, ST, SC, GL **
USGS Maps: McCarthy A7, A8, B8
Rate:   $510/person (unguided)

A challenging and rewarding trip, if you don't mind a little bushwhacking. You will start on a high plateau and cross two wide river valleys on your way to the Hanagita valley. Camp at the base of Hanagita near thunderous waterfalls that beg to be explored up close. When the clouds part and reveal Hanagita's summit you'll be glad you brought some extra film.

The country in the vicinity of Shovel peak provides a dramatic conclusion to a great trip before dropping into Bremner on Golcanda Creek. Allow a day to explore the Bremner area and the relics of gold mining activity.

**This route involves river crossings including the Klu River, steep traversing on scree and talus slopes and glacier crossings. The Hanagita and Klu valleys will involve some brush which is thick at times. Route finding skills are required. This is a trip for experienced wilderness travelers or as a guided adventure.
